I love decay

I am so excited to share the links to these very cool tutorials. I love the Internet for providing a way to share information so easily, but I love these photographers more for sharing their valuable information at no cost!

The first one teaches you how to distress a digital image in Adobe Photoshop, which is so fun. After reading this tutorial I was able to turn my picture A into picture B. You need your own image but everything else you need, including textures for distressing, is provided thanks to photographer Steve Paxton and Beeex.net.

I personally really enjoy the distressed look. I found that it has to be the right kind of image to be successful though, and it can look awkward if you have the wrong subject or even the wrong texture. But it is so much fun trying to make it work! If you go look at Steve Paxton’s work you will see that he actually incorporates this into a lot of his portraiture and manages to pull it off wonderfully. On his personal website he also has other helpful tutorials.

My second wonderful find is a set of  “Grunge Borders” that you can use for your photographs in Photoshop as well. They are modern and fresh (unlike a lot of borders that you can download) and most favoritely, free! You can find these at http://www.640pixels.com/articles/free-photoshop-grunge-borders.aspx .

Credit goes to Andrea Rascaglia (Rome – Italy) for creating and sharing and to 640pixels for finding them. Below is an example of one.

  1. Very cool. I’ve been wondering about borders and stuff and have only really been able to find the most boring of the boring. The boots look great with the distressed look!

  2. OK–the photography jargain is beyond me, but the shot of the oak tree is stunning. Is that from the ranch?

  3. It sure is! You can probably tell but it is in the first pasture on the left if you are driving up to the house.

  4. The tree reminds me of the one on your wedding announcement. I really like it.

  5. Thank you very much!
    Interesting blog!
